Mularkey Has Yet To Meet Jones-Drew
Maurice Jones-Drew seeks a new contract and the Jaguars aren't going to budge on their stance of letting him play out his current contract.
It has been reported that new Jacksonville coach Mike Mularkey hasn't even met Jones-Drew. Running backs coach Sylvester Croom hasn't met him either.
"I don't drive home or sit in my office worrying about it," Mularkey said of Jones-Drew's holdout.
"I don't waste the energy."
Phillips: J.J. Watt Destined For Hall Of Fame
Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips thinks so highly of J.J. Watt that he believes the young player is headed for the Hall of Fame.
"(Watt's) going to be a bust -- not a first-round bust but a bust in the Hall of Fame," Phillips said. "The only players I've seen that can do what he can do with his intensity can be found in Canton."
Watt is the rare 3-4 defensive end that can dominate rushing the passer and stopping the run.
"I've seen a lot of guys, and I compare him to Howie Long) in that he has the same quickness to beat (offensive) linemen off the ball. He's a smart guy who gets it," Phillips said.
Jets Deal For Jeff Otah Voided
Jeff Otah failed his physical with the Jets, voiding the terms of his trade from the Panthers.
New York wanted Otah to compete for the starting job at right tackle.
"He did everything we asked for the past week and the terms of the trade weren't met so he's going back to Carolina," Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum said.
Marvin Lewis Agrees To Extension With Bengals
Marvin Lewis and the Bengals have agreed on an extension that will run through the 2014 season.
Lewis was entering the final year of his current contract.
"The team we have for this year is as exciting and intriguing as any one I've had," he said in a statement. "Our goal is to win the Super Bowl, nothing less, and it's great to have this extension in place."
Eli Manning Higher Than Peyton In Madden Ratings
While the full Madden NFL 13 ratings won't be released until late August, the quarterback ratings have been revealed.
Aaron Rodgers is the highest rated quarterback in the game with rating of 99. There are eight other quarterbacks rated 90 or higher.
Eli Manning of the Giants is rated 97, higher than older brother Peyton Manning, who has a rating of 93 overall heading into his first season with the Broncos.
Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Ben Roethlisberger, Philip Rivers, Matthew Stafford, Tony Romo and Michael Vick round out the top-10.
Peterson Recovered From Allergic Reaction To Seafood
Adrian Peterson has returned to Minnesota's training camp after an allergic reaction at lunch sent him to a local hospital.
Peterson ate seafood on Monday that caused his face to swell and shortness of breath.
Vikings coach Leslie Frazier says the situation was a "little bit of a scare" but that Peterson is "fine now."
Holmes Remains Upset For Being Made Jets' 2011 Scapegoat
Santonio Holmes remains upset he was benched in the Jets' 2011 season finale, claiming he was the "scapegoat" for the team's disappointing record.
"It was the end, it was playoffs on the line, and your best receiver doesn't get but two passes thrown his way in 60 minutes of football," Holmes told ESPN New York 98.7 FM.
"That's just hard to understand and to cope with when you want everything just as bad as everybody else does, and it just doesn't even happen. And nobody has the answers for it, but 'the scapegoat' is the answer, and that's what happened."
Smith: Chargers Have Lost Respect Around NFL
Coming off back-to-back seasons without reaching the playoffs, the Chargers feel as though they have lost respect around the NFL.
"We have lost our respect in the league and our credibility in the league," A.J. Smith told Peter King of Sports Illustrated.
"We were an elite team. You miss one year in the playoffs? OK. You miss two? You deserve everything that's being said about you."
Smith's players don't disagree with his blunt assessment.
When told of the comments, center Nick Hardwick said, "Amen."
Antonio Gates called it a truth that's "not acceptable, not negotiable."
Carlson: No Comparison To Gronkowski, Hernandez
The Vikings signed John Carlson this offseason to pair with second-year tight end Kyle Rudolph, drawing comparisons to New England's excellent combination of Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez.
In 62 NFL games, the Minnesota tight end tandem has 163 receptions, 1,768 yards and 16 touchdowns.
"To compare us to those two tight ends is not something I'm going to do right now," Carlson said.
"We've got a lot of work to do; we have a long ways to go. It's been done. It's being done out there. We have to work to improve to get toward that point."
Kolb Listed As Arizona's No. 1 Quarterback
On the team's initial depth chart, the Cardinals have listed Kevin Kolb as their No. 1 quarterback.
Kolb, set to enter his second season with Arizona, is listed ahead of John Skelton.
Ken Whisenhunt has not indicated whether Kolb or Skelton has the edge in the competition for the starting quarterback job.
